Kohima, September 25 (NEx): The Department of Land Resources Longleng conducted a training on Designs and upscaling of perma/potager kitchen Garden concept at the District Project Office on September 23, 2020.
Kughalu Chishi, District Project Office Longleng, exhorted the trainees to be attentive, learn and logically strategize the planning and layout aspects of the kitchen garden. He stated that the success of the kitchen garden concept depends on farmer’s initiative and interest.
A brief introductory note was given by PBCA Execution Secretary, Tialemba Phom where he emphasized on the role and importance of kitchen garden particularly for a land locked-district like Longleng. In a worst case scenario, situation like the prevailing Covid-19 case, the necessity of self-sustaining food security setup like kitchen garden becomes very important. He opined that churches and women in particular should play an important role in popularizing kitchen garden concept in the district. He also lauded the department for people friendly initiative, which is of one its kind in Longleng.
The training started with kitchen garden concept and its relevance, pictorial presentation of design and layouts, site selection, soil preparation/soil building, seed bank, cropping season and pattern, companion planting and its benefits and keyhole concepts.
Altogether trainees from 14 Micro-watershed villages attended the training and vegetable seeds were distributed to all selected beneficiaries.
