“Local Food Show” held at Tiyi Hall, Wokha

Wokha, September 30 (DIPR): The month long celebration (September) of Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan, Poshan Maah National Nutrition Mission culminated with a “Local Food Show” on two categories complimentary feeding for children and Balance diet, Diet-diversity for all age group was conducted on 30th September 2019 at Tiyi Hall, Wokha. Around 21 Self Help Groups (SHGs) from National State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) and National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) participated in the competition.

During the competition various nutritional food items were displayed by the SHGs. Prime Rose SHG (NSRLM), Woro Pangti SHG (NSRLM) and Nzanro SHG (LULM) were adjudged the first, second and third respectively. Cash awards were also given to the winners which was handed over by EAC, Wokha, Imtinungla Longkumer. Cash incentives were also given to all the participating SHGs.

EAC, Wokha, Imtinungula Longkumer while speaking before the competition begins said, the Prime Minister of India vision for new India is a multi-ministerial convergence mission to ensure attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022 and to ensure holistic development adequate nutrition. She also lauded all the line departments involved in educating and sensitizing the public on nourishment and successfully implementing the assignment.

District Project Assistant, Poshan, Annie Lotha who gave a brief overview on poshan abhiyaan said that it is a Government of India flagship programme to improve nutritional outcome for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers which was launched by the Prime Minister of India on International Women’s’ Day last year. This mission aims the country towards the problem of malnutrition and addresses it in mission mode and intends to significantly reduce malnutrition in the next three years and ensure better monitoring to achieve the goal.

During the month long programme eight major activities were conducted and may more programmes were also conducted in collaboration with Anganwadi Workers like, Growth Monitoring, Home Visit, VHSNT, Community Based events, Hand washing day, Mothers group meeting, seminar on complimentary feeding diet diversity, D2 Programme, Anemia Screening, Poshan Rally, Poshan Mela, WASH, menstrual and Heath Hygiene, the first 1000 (Thousand) days of a child life, painting competition bike tally and Food show.

The programme was chaired by Sr. Supervisor, ICDS, Wokha, Erenbeni Kikon while vote of thanks was proposed by Assistant District Programme Manager-NRLM, Samuel Kithan.
