Kohima: Lecturer of a theological seminary in Kohima was forwarded to judicial custody for allegedly raping a 16-year-old minor.

Police sources said that the minor victim was working as a domestic helper in a private residence in Midland colony Kohima while the house owner lodged a missing report about her on 8th July.

On conducting search operations, police found out that she was in the residence of the accused identified as Reverend Kevi Meru at Naga Bazaar colony Kohima.

However on interrogation, Meru told police, he had already sent the girl to her village in Mon district. But, police said, she was brought back to Kohima from Mon on July 18 for enquiry. In her statement to the police she said; she went with the reverend after she left her employer’s house on July 8. In the days that followed, she alleged that he raped her.

Police said the accused was forwarded to the court on Friday (19 July) and put under judicial custody for further investigation while medical report of the victim is awaited.

He was booked under the protection of children from Sexual offence (POCSO) Act and other IPC sections.

But the accused has denied the charge against him, Police said.
