Dimapur, November 20 (NE): To create awareness on open defecation and good sanitary practices, the United Nations marked an annual international observance- ‘World Toilet Day’, was observed at Showuba(old) Kuhuboto subdivision on Tuesday, November 19, under the theme: Leaving no one behind, “drawing attention to those people being left behind without sanitation” and the consequences of inaction on social, economic and environmental aspects.
The programme was organized by PHED Rural Division, Dimapur and
sponsored by WSSO, PHED, Kohima, Nagaland.
Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, PHED (Rural)division Dimapur,
Smti.Imojungla Longkumer, spoke on the significance of ‘World Toilet Day’
and shared Sustainable Development Goal 6 target to eliminate open
defecation and ensure access to sustainable sanitation services by
2030,with special reference to women, girls and vulnerable sections.
Following up on the theme SDO, Kuhuboto, Er.R. Imtisowa initiated the
construction of toilets for two most deserving aged persons from the host
village, with material support by the department in collaboration with
the community on the occasion.
Social work and individual household cleaning was also carried out to observe the day.
