Dimapur, January 22 (NE): In a very surprising or rather disappointing end for the team and the fans of Nagaland at the Khelo India Youth Games 2020, Nagaland ranked last (No. 37) in the medal tally with zero medal. Maharashtra led the medal tally with overall two hundred fifty six medals under their kitty, followed by Haryana with two hundred and Delhi with one hundred and twenty two medals in the biggest sporting event of India at Guwahati, Assam.
Nagaland could not get any medals in Khelo India Youth Games 2020 which was held at Guwahati (Assam). Maharashtra led with overall two hundred fifty six goals, followed by states like Haryana and Delhi.
Assam is ranked seventh with 76 medals and Manipur ranked Fourteen with 54 medals which are the only two North East states seen in the medals tally table within rank 15, as per the official tally. The game started off since January Nine, 2020 and concludes today, January Twenty Two with Minister of State (Independent Incharge), Ministry of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of India, Shri Kiren Rijiju and Assam Chief Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonawal gracing the closing ceremony along with others.
The game was impressive from the beginning although Nagaland was placed last as it could not gain any medals even though the players give their best in their respective categories of the games.
Back home, a lot of homeworks are required, few sports enthusiasts commented on the sideline of overall performance. Nagaland is a state that can really grow in the field of sports, provided that they continue to practice, another citizen opined. As per reports coming in, the past few days, apart from the game, there were few officials from Nagaland who represented as referee on boxing atleast in national level.
Only ten participants from Nagaland took part in the 3rd Khelo India Games 2020 which concludes today at Guwahati, in three disciplines – Wrestling, Archery and Athletics. Six participants for Wrestling category, two for Archery, and two for Athletics.
Khelo India Youth Games 2020, the third edition of the event is organized to select players from the grassroot level through this event, informed an official source.
