(Peaceful rally held on March 19, 2021, in Dimapur on implementation of RIIN in Nagaland)

Kohima, March 19 (NEx): The Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) held a peaceful protest rally at DC Court junction Dimapur today, demanding the implementation of Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) in the state of Nagaland within the stipulated time. A representation to the Chief Minister of Nagaland was also submitted through the ADC, Dimapur.

During the rally, JCPI convenor, Atovi Swu stated that the movement is not against any government, saying that Nagaland cannot be a state of lawlessness. He said they are demanding for implementation of the rights and privileges and not to deprive the rights of the individual.

The representation to the Chief Minister stated that without RIIN, Nagas’ birthright will be lost forever and reduced to secondary citizens in one’s own land. JCPI pointed out that the future security of the state is exposed to all potential disadvantages and self destruction.

The representation also said that it is pertinent to enforce Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act 1873, ILP and RIIN and other laid down protective law of the land with a comprehensive mechanism and standard operating procedure with 24×7 monitoring cell under Home department for smooth governance and effective implementation of the existing law.

A total of 48 organisations took part in the peaceful rally in Dimapur today. ‘Such unity shows the sincerity of the people. They should implement the RIIN as soon as possible with the cut-off year of 1-12-1963,’ JCPI Convenor said.

‘We are confident that the government will not neglect the voice of the people. However, if the government cannot fulfil the demands, we will have to take democratic steps,’ he added.
