Peren, March 09 (NE): International women’s day 2020 was celebrated at Govt.Hr. Sec School Ground and 19 baptist churches Jalukie Town on 8th March 2020 on the theme ‘ I am Generation Equality’ : Realising Women’s Rights, organised by Peren district Administration in collaboration with Social Welfare, DLCW, OSC, Civil Societies & Church members.
WWO MSK BBBP, Heiriateile on her short speech said that International Women’s Day is a global day of celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of womens identity by marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality. She said that United Nations began celebrating the day in 1975 to celebrate womanhood.The United Nations theme for International Women’s day 2020 ‘ I am generation equality, Realising women’s rights’ is aligned with UN Women’s New Multi – generation campaign, ‘Generation Equality’ marking the 25th anniversary of Beijing declaration and platform for actions with the objective to achieve gender equality and human rights of all women and girls.
She also reminded that ‘ Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ – Save the girl child, educate her was launched by Prime minister of India on January 22, 2015 at panipat, Haryana whereas in Peren district it was officially launched on October 24, 2018. The overall goal is to celebrate the girl child and enable her to educate, to prevent gender biased sex selective elimination, to ensure survival of girl child and protection, education and participation of the girl child in all aspects of social life, she stated.
Since the launching of the program in Peren, the District Administration has conducted a multiple number of activities, however, for the successful implementation of BBBP, she said that it requires more cooperation and support from all the civil society and community leaders and the public in general. Taking up the opportunity she urged and call upon everyone present in the program to extend full cooperation to the agencies involves in the implementation of BBBP in the district.
The ‘Essence of women’ was shared by 2019 Miss Peren Gimlule. she said that women are created to make the world beautiful, attractive and awesome place to live in. Essence of women is seen in the beauty of her soul and not just her perfect body. She said that it is a woman that guides and nurtures the man and her children with love, care and passion. A women loves her simple life and does not compare herself with other women. Behind pretty and feminine nature women are equipped with immense strength more than a man could carry. Women are said to be the best gift for men, she does work that cannot be recognized and might never be rewarded but she does it for love’s sake. A woman is matured enough to handle herself well, she is graceful and patient in her ways. She understands and respect the fact that a man and woman are completely different from one another with different abilities. A woman’s essence can be seen by more than just an eye could. Each woman is wrapped with layers and layers of qualities which make up her very nature and her essence, she added.
DLSA Peren, Italang Ramlia also delivered a short speech on the topic Legal rights of women and protection of women from domestic violence.
After the formal program Deputy commissioner Peren, Sentiwapang Aier inaugurated the women entrepreneurship stall. The program was chaired by Mrs Apeuna Iheilung, ZMO President while invocation prayer was proposed by Miss Igumpeule, Women pastor Jalukie Town local Baptist church, special song was presented by miss Bamyile samziuram and vote of thanks was delivered by CDPO Athibung, Mangli Longkumer.
