Inaugural of Dr. Imkongliba Memorial Volleyball Trophy held

Dimapur, November 21 (NE): The first Dr. Imkongliba Memorial Volleyball Trophy 2019 was inaugurated on Wednesday, November 20, at Dimapur Government College Ground.

In Memory of Late Dr. Imkongliba Ao, who was the Founder Architect of Nagaland State and also the First President of Naga Peoples’ Convention (NPC), a three day Volleyball trophy event is being organized from November 20 till 22, 2019, by Japukong Youth Organisation (JYO), under the theme ‘Recognizing achievement through sports’.

Hon’ble Dr. S.C.Jamir, Former governor of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa & Odisha, former Chief Minister of Nagaland, was the Inaugural Guest, and Shri. Temjen Imna Along, Hon’ble Minister Higher & Technical Education, Tribal Affairs, GoN, was the Chief Host of the inaugural event.

Dr. S.C Jamir said in his inaugural speech, that time has come to remember the pioneers who has created the state of Nagaland. The sacrifice which Dr. Imkongliba Ao had made for his people should be made known to this young generation. History is repeating in our land. We are what we are today because of the sacrifice that was made by some people and among all Dr. Imkongliba Ao is one of them. He is the architect of Nagaland, Dr. S. C Jamir added.

Taking example of Isreal, Dr. S. C Jamir said – a Christian nation, has emphasized to imbibe the true Naganess, which is really missing today. Being a true Naga – truth, hard labor and honesty are the ones that was a way of life then; but these are all missed, he lamented. But taking a dig, he said, one can develop for a better future as whole. Talking further, Jamir congratulated the organizers and encouraged the players to take the sports higher.

Earlier, Shri Temjen Imnalong spoke about imbibing boldness and fearless among others to stand for the truth. He encouraged the players including the youths; also spoke about creating a robust society for whole Nagas to live.

Meanwhile, a solidary speech by a retired IAS, Shri Tali Longkumer (son of late Imkongliba), Welcome address was given by Lanusunep, President, JYO. Songs, memento presentation were other highlights of the program.

There will be nineteen matches as a whole to be played in few days. And the finals will be on November 22.
