Dimapur, March 10 (NE): Shri Venüzo Dawhuo emerged as champion of the 27th Nagaland Wrestling Championship 2020 held at Kohima Local ground, today, March Ten.
The 27th Edition of Nagaland Wrestling Championship and 1st under-16 years Wrestling Championship 2020 is underway at Khouchiezie Kohima local ground today. The two-day long mega traditional wrestling championship also coincides with the 50th year formation of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA).
Nagaland Chief Minister and President of Nagaland Olympic Association, Shri Neiphiu Rio graced the occasion as the special guest, while, MLA Shri Kuzholuzo Nienu was the inaugural guest during the opening ceremony.

On the first day, 54 top wrestlers from Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang tribes participated in the senior category of the Championship. Meanwhile, 24 year old Venüzo Dawhuo from Thenyizu Village, under Phek district emerged as the champion of the 27th Nagaland Wrestling Championship 2020. The Chakhesang wrestler, Dawhuo who was the reigning champion defeated 21 year old Kezhaseluo Pienyü of Kohima Village in the final round to take the title.

On the second day, March 11, 2020, the first ever Under-16 Naga wrestling championship 2020 will be held. A total of 32 wrestlers from the junior category will compete for the coveted title.
Meanwhile, it is noted that, as per information from relevant sources, there were crowded spectators of not less than twenty five thousand who thronged the local ground to witness the entire event on the first day, today. Many people did not get the gallery tickets which was occupied very fast as today was a holiday.
