Kohima, June 30: Director of Health Office, USAID, Xerses Sidhwa today (June 30) inaugurated the Health and Wellness Centre of Science College sub-centre Kohima under the Ayushman Bharat.
Speaking at the programme, Sidhwa said it was Prime Minister’s Modi bold vision for Ayushman Bharat in bringing easily accessible and affordable health care to the needy.
Sidhwa said Nagaland has done incredible work in achieving the lowest infant mortality rate in the country. He said the state government has shown its leadership and vision of partnering with the USAID on what can be done for better health care system.
Country Director Jhpiego India, Dr. Bulbul Sood said health care system today in India is moving beyond disease care and towards wellness.
She said church being a strong organisation can play an important role in spreading the message on health awareness.
Principal Secretary, Health and Family welfare department, I Himato Zhimomi in his key note address said there has been a paradigm shift in looking at health throughout the World and India. He said the present flagship programme Ayushman Bharat rests on the pillar of Health and Wellness centres, HWCs for provision of comprehensive primary health care.
Zhimomi said HWCs envisages delivering an expanded 12 range of primary health care services. He said the HWCs will bring quality health care closer to the homes of the community and are expected to minimize out of pocket expenditure on primary health care.
At present, 49 sub centres, one primary health centre and two urban primary health centres are being upgraded to Health and wellness centres across the district.
