Governor R.N. Ravi Launched Manuals on Jal Shakti Campus & Jal Shakti Gram and Swachh Campus at Kohima

Kohima, October 2 (NE): Nagaland Governor, Shri R.N. Ravi launched Jal Shakti Campus & Jal Shakti Gram and Swachh Campus in commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, today (October 2, 2019) at Auditorium, Kohima College, Kohima.

The programme is organised by the Department of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Nagaland in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Governor RN Ravi speaking at the event said that the two manuals prepared by the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education is a practical document and will help in keeping the campus clean and in conserving water. Cleanliness for Mahatma Gandhi he said was next to Godliness and it a first step toward spiritual goal. Ravi stressed on the good examples set by Gandhi and urged all to ponder on the successful political ideologies and the practice of non-violence.

He also remarked that when PM Modi launched the clean India movement it was his developmental strategy to developed India because only when India is clean can it grow .He also added the cleanliness drive is also an initiative to bring social justice and ensuring that poor people are not force to spend their hard earned wages on basic health needs.

On water conservation Ravi said that due to unscientific management of water it is creating havoc and devastation across the world and in our country. He therefore stressed on the urgency to conserve water and in saving the environment. Ravi urged the institution of learning, education centers, faculty, students and administrations to help in transforming not only the campus but also focus on saving and creating a cleaner environment in the campuses.

State programme Coordinator, MGNCRE, Nutsulu Rakho, in her brief report on Jal Shakti Campus & Jal Shakti Gram and Swachh campus highlighted that the manuals have been developed at the behest of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. She stated that, in the context of Mahatma Gandhi 150th Birth Anniversary Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education is promoting participation of Higher Education Institutions in sanitation, hygiene and water conservation which are national prime requisites of development.

The Manuals will help Higher Education Institutions including Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics in developing strategies, action plans and implementation plans for water conservation on the campuses and in the villages with which the campuses are engaged with in National Service Scheme (NSS), Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA). Manuals contain Standard Operating Procedures for supporting the task of promoting cleanliness on the campus and promoting a culture of taking responsibility to keep the campus clean through continuous monitoring and practice and to develop a model water conservation plan, water conservation procedures and practices reflecting local water resource needs and water quality as well as quantity in campuses and in villages.

Asst. Professor, Kohima College, Kohima, Dr. Eunice Alinger illustrated the Life Sketch of Mahatma Gandhi ” Father of the Nation” and said that in the backdrop of the materialistic culture that dominates our world, Gandhi’s idea of simple living and strong faith in the power of truth and non-violence can be the guiding light for a generation seemingly diverted from the road of values and ethics. Alinger, further expressed that, like Gandhi, we can fight for justice, human rights and equality through simple but highly innovate strategies by creating mass awareness and education to enable people to be free themselves from fear and to stand up non-violently with the power of soul-force.

Earlier, Governor, R N Ravi, launched the manual on Jal Shakti Campus & Jal Shakti Gram and Swacch Campus. National Anthem song was presented by Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma.
