Kohima: Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has said that new inventions should be taken as a blessing and to utilize them to strengthen the society.
Speaking at the one-day Media seminar on social media, organized by North East Press Service News Group at Raj Bhavan, Kohima today, Acharya said all media platforms are centers of knowledge and are created to supplement each other.
Expressing concern on the negative impact of social media, the Governor said the subject should be introduced in the schools and colleges to educate the young people in using the platform with responsibility and caution.
Addressing the seminar as resource person, Inspector General (Range) Nagaland, Sonia Singh urged the citizens to restrain from posting unauthentic and provocating news on social media.
She said the police used social media as a means for disseminating information on new laws, amendments, regulations and advisories to the citizens.
In this regard, Sonia called for active participation from the people, especially the youths to give suggestions and feedbacks, so that the police department can improve the security system of the citizens.
Highlighting on cyber crimes, the police officer informed that the law enforcing agencies has superior tactics to book offenders and bring them to liability.
Also speaking as resource person on the topic Traditional Media and Social Media, President of Nagaland Press Association, H. Chishi said Social media and other online news sources, also known as the “new media”, have become an integral part of modern society.
It has changed the lives of many people, as it provides a better social life and acts as an influential tool of employment. He however stated that it is through the traditional media where people can experience real world communication.
Chishi said traditional media stays on to the people’s mind for a long time and it can reach to people in the remote parts where there are no internet services.
