Kohima, February 04 (NEx): The Wokha District Administration & DLCW-MSK (District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra) in collaboration with the Department of District Transport Office, Wokha, organised distribution of free driving license for girls under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) on 4th February 2021, coinciding with the Road Safety Month.
The initiative for the same started in the second week of October 2020, where interested girls/candidates wanting to obtain driving license were enlisted and certain laid down procedures like driving class, driving test and other requirements were imparted to the beneficiaries and the culmination programme was held today, February 4th, 2021 at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference hall, Wokha, with Motor Vehicle Officer (MVO) Wokha, Masetshilong Longkumer as the resource person.
Altogether, 83 Smart cards (driving license) were issued to the beneficiaries. The MVO, while giving away the cards to the beneficiaries, highlighted about the Motor Vehicle Acts, the basics rules while taking the wheel and urged them to always carry the required documents while on the road. The MVO also stated that during the Road Safety month, various kinds of awareness activities involving the taxi unions and drivers will be conducted to sensitize them about road safety.
