Kohima, November 23 (NEx): Former Chief Minister of Assam and veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi passed away in Guwahati today, November 23, 2020 (Monday) at 05:30 pm. He was 86.
His son Gourav Gogoi, in a tweet on Saturday shared an update on the condition of former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, that his health condition is critical and admitted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was in ventilation and there has been reports of multi-organ failure.
Gogoi was readmitted to the intensive care unit of the GMCH on November 2, 2020, a week after he was discharged from hospital, after undergoing treatment for post-COVID-19 complications on October 25, 2020.
Tarun Gogoi is the longest serving Chief Minister of Assam state from 2001 to 2016. He is a member of the Indian National Congress and led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories in Assam.
Earlier today, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is said to have cancelled all his programmes and flew back to Guwahati from Dibrugarh to be by Gogoi’s side.
