Kohima, August 30: Over twenty paddy fields were destroyed by the flash flood at Chathe River, adjacent to Thekrujuma village under Sechü Zubza.
The flash flood occurred on Wednesday (August 28) at around 5:00 AM. According to SDO Civil Sechü Zubza, Mhomo Tungoe informed that the remote village is completely cut off from the rest as the only bridge connecting the village has also been washed away.
He further informed that basic services like road and electricity were also disrupted. Tungoe said the damaged area is almost a kilometre stretch along the river course and they were able to assess about 20 affected farmers.
District Disaster Management Authority Kohima was immediately informed about the ground situation and a team of officials from agri deptt were also dispatched the accessed the situation.
Meanwhile, Village council chairman of Thekrejuma village Rüüngutuo Kruse said an emergency foot bridge had been constructed today however it would be difficult to construct a temporary bridge for vehicular movement. In a similar story the flash flood had occurred at Dzüleke village about some 40 kilometres from Kohima.
