Kohima, May 29: The first Nagaland Premier Badminton League 2019 kick off today at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Kohima.
Addressing the opening ceremony as special guest, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Anoop Khinchi, congratulated the Nagaland Badminton Club for initiating the first Premier Badminton League in the state.
Khinchi said, organizing such league is not just a start but a stepping stone to embark professional badminton in Nagaland. Commenting that there is a score of talented sportsperson in the State, Kinchi said that in order to tap these talents, it needs to work out scientifically by organizing various coaching camps to assist the players.
General Secretary of Nagaland Badminton Club, Joseph Sumi in his key note address said that the league was initiated to establish a strong podium for the players with the aim to enhance and enrich a legacy in the state.
A total of 108 players from six teams have registered in the ongoing league. The categories for the league are Under-15 for boys single, Under-17 girls single, Under-19 boys doubles, men’s singles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles and men’s 85 Plus doubles.
In Group-A match played today, Raging Pheonix defeated Shuttle Rockers by 5-2. While Panama Shuttlers Mon defeated Beits Badminton club 4-3 in Group B matches.
