Fire and Emergency department reports two fire incidents

Kohima, May 10 (NE): Amidst the pandemic, the Fire and Emergency department are on the roll for the call of duty whenever the situation arises.

Reports from Fire department said that there was a Jungle fire at Hydro Power Station, Kiphire and fire at 6 houses in V.V.J Stone Crusher, near Naga Cemetery, Chumoukedima, on May 08, 2020.

Fire at Kiphire:

On receiving a fire call at 1:52 pm on May 08, 2020 from Hydro Power Station, Kiphire, Fire & Emergency Services mobilised a quick response team from Fire Station Kiphire. Fire Personnel rushed to the spot and contained the fire. Timely intervention of fire personnel managed to put the fire under control and prevented from further spreading to adjoining areas.

The cause of fire is unknown. An area of Approximately 150 x 150 square metres was damaged in the inferno. No casualty was reported. The response team was led by 2nd OC Nungsangmeren Ao and Duty Commander ASI Neisiekuo.

Fire at Chumoukedima:

In another incident, a fire call was received at 11:07pm on May 08, 2020 from V.V.J Stone Crusher, Near Naga Cemetery, Chumoukedima. Fire & Emergency Services mobilised a quick response team from Fire Station Chumoukedima. Fire Personnel reached the incident site at 11:23 pm. Fire Tenders along with sufficient equipment’s and Fire Personnel were rush to the spot and contained the Fire.

Six Kutcha houses were completely razed down during the inferno, which were used as Labourer’s Shelter. Property worth 6 Lakhs approximately was lost and 3 Lakhs property saved in the inferno. However, timely intervention of fire personnel managed to put the fire under control and prevented from further spreading to adjoining areas. The cause of fire is due to short circuit. No casualty was reported. The response team was led by Duty Commander SI Francis Singsit.
