DoSE directs Nodal Officers to re-verify scholarship applications

The Principal Director of School Education, Shanavas C, IAS informed that all the applications for Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme, already verified as on date, this year will be sent back to the respective Nodal Officers to be re-verified

Kohima, December 15 (NEx): The Principal Director of School Education, Shanavas C, IAS informed that all the applications for Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme, already verified as on date, this year will be sent back to the respective Nodal Officers to be re-verified on the basis of the documents submitted by the applicant and cross checked with the school record.

In case a student has not submitted any document or has not submitted the required number of documents, the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) may “mark the application as ‘defective’ so as to provide another opportunity to the genuine applicant to rectify the mistake, he added.

Shanavas said that many people with vested interests are applying for scholarship under fictitious name which is a serious crime. Therefore, the Department of School Education requested the INOs to be cautious while verifying the student’s application form and the INO’s responsible for the 1st level verification are required to maintain copies of supporting documents prescribed by the Ministry year-wise and produce the physical record to the DNO/SNO as and when required, he said.

The principal director also informed that the INOs will maintain the records separately for the applicants under fresh and renewal categories respectively and the records will be retained by the school for at least 5 years. He also cautioned that INOs must not share the USER ID and PASSWORD of the institute with anyone and surrender them to the head of institute when they leave school. ‘The head of institutes must also make sure that the INO appointed are regular employee of the school’, notified the education department.

The Department also informed that the Ministry has extended the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for applying online scholarships for 2020-21, as follows:

*Last date for Submission of Online applications by the students is extended to December 31, 2020

*Last date for first level (Institution) verification – January 15, 2021

*Last date for second level (District) verification – January 31, 2021

The PD also advised the students to carefully read the Guidelines for Registration on National Scholarship Portal and all efforts should be made to adhere to the timelines given on the Portal.
