Kohima, March 25 (NEx): The District Legal Services Authority Kiphire organised one day legal seminar on March 24th, 2021 at S.P Conference Hall Kiphire on the topic “Violation of Human Rights”. A total of 65 participants attended the seminar including police officers, O.C, Women police and all ranks and files, a press release from DLSA informed.
Officiating Principal Zisaji Presidency College Kiphire, Dr. Purna Chandra Mishra, spoke on “Violation of Human Rights” and emphasized on Mental and Physical Tortures by the police to the accused which goes beyond the limit and lead to serious unwanted consequences at times.
He said, the deaths under police custody are increasing ever year which highlights the violation of human rights, therefore police department should take precautions while dealing with the accused person under their custody. Mishra added that Violation of right to
education and gender discrimination are highlighted in the context of locality. Also, Violation of right to property, right to equal opportunity for employment and right to get wage for equal work were explained in the local context.
Further, he mentioned that ”Self in you is the self everywhere,” if rightly followed, there may not be any complaints of Human Rights Violation in the locality which can help everybody to have best state and the nation as well where every human can stay in peace.
Meanwhile, P/Lawyer DLSA Kiphire, Kunyangli Sangtam spoke on “Rights of arrested person” by highlighting Section 50 (2) of CrPC which says that the arrested person has the right to get released on bail by making arrangement for the sureties or just inform him of his rights when arrested without a warrant for an offence other than a non- cognizable offence.
