Dimapur, December 31 (NEx): The Dimapur police crack the whip on defaulters for wrong lane driving in the highway. Altogether, 40 vehicles have been seized and penalized so far, an update by Dimapur police on Thursday said.

Dimapur police in a tweet on Wednesday informed that 19 vehicles were seized and penalized for Wrong Lane driving in the highway. Driver License of the defaulters impounded and being processed for disqualification, it said.

On Thursday, a total of 21 more vehicles have been seized and necessary action is being initiated under the MV Act, Dimapur police informed.

It is important to note that, on December 23, 2020, Dimapur police in a public notice urged the public to avoid driving in the wrong lane. The Police also informed that defaulters will be punished under 184 MV Act, with imprisonment of 6 months to 1 year and/or fine upto Rs. 1000 or Rs. 5000 for first time traffic rule violators. Subsequent offence (within 3 years of first offence) will lead to imprisonment upto 2 years and/or fine upto Rs. 10,000, updated Dimapur police.
