Dept. Of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Promotes Backyard Poultry Farming

Kohima, May 25 (NEx): With a view to mitigate Food Security during the Pandemic period, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services through NEC project has initiated promotion of Backyard Poultry Farming in the State.

A DIPR report said that Fast Growing Birds are being reared in the Department Farm to cater the demand of poultry rearers which will be available for sale in phased manner starting with Kohima / Dimapur scheduled on May 31st, 2021.

General specification of the birds is that they are Fast Growing (FFG) Low Input Technology Bird for dual purpose (meat & egg type) with targeted weight gain at 2.5 kgs to 3.5 kgs in 2-3 months time and 150-170 eggs in a year.

The department also informed that the currently available stock of Growers are mixed coloured birds of 31 days old and that all the birds have been duly vaccinated and overcomed the critical period of rearing.

It recommends concentrate feeding with “Grower Feed’ or partial replacement with kitchen leftover when rearing under intensive system for early maturity.

The department will provide online consultation services and need based logistic support and demand based delivery shall be organized, scheduling time and locality, intimating the same to all concerned accordingly.

Further, it said that during delivery and collection, all SOP protocols are to be maintained by all concerned.
