DENSU appeals Nagaland Govt. to Withdraw Cess Duty on Petrol & Diesel

Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) appealed the State Government to withdraw the cess duty on petrol/diesel imposed as a consequence of COVID-19

Kohima, September 18 (NEx): The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) appealed the State Government to withdraw the cess duty on petrol/diesel imposed as a consequence of COVID-19.

DENSU in a press release today, September 18, 2020 stated that continued levying of such tax at this juncture when the plight of common man is at its worse is completely unwarranted and unreasonable.

The situation is even grimmer for the middle class and lower income segment of people whose everyday sustenance has been seriously compromised owing to steep rise in prices because of this cess duty, it said.

It also noted that our state at present appears to have the costliest petroleum rate among the northeastern states. While mentioning that the State has been receiving its due share of relief fund regularly from the Centre to mitigate the state’s expenses, the union said that the cess duty if not lifted immediately, will add more burden to the people rather than bringing normalcy in the state.
