Cyber crime accused Pankaj Gupta granted bail

The Gauhati High Court, Kohima on Monday, July 27, 2020 granted bail to cyber crime accused Pankaj Gupta who was arrested from Haryana on June 9, 2020

Kohima, July 28 (NEx): The Gauhati High Court, Kohima on Monday, July 27, 2020 granted bail to cyber crime accused Pankaj Gupta who was arrested from Kurukshetra in Haryana, by a team of Haryana police and Nagaland police officers on June 09, 2020.

The court order stated that the accused shall be released on furnishing of PR bond of One lakh rupees with two surety bonds of the like amount which should be furnished by residents of Nagaland.

The court order further stated that the accused is not allowed to leave the State of Nagaland without the permission of the Investigation Officer of the case and the Court concerned. He should not indulge or involve in any act which would hamper or interfere with the trial of the case.

The accused, Pankaj Gupta through a video posted in different social media platforms have alleged that Nagaland Government is intentionally trying to spread COVID-19 in Nagaland to get funds from central government. He also challenged Nagaland Chief Minister for an online debate on COVID-19 situation and mismanagement in Nagaland.

Based on this, a case was registered against Pankaj for uploading video, which were inflammatory, abusive, divisive and prejudicial to the maintenance of social peace and harmony attracting the provisions of IPC, which are cognisable and non-bailable, as per a press release by SP Crime & PRO of Nagaland Police, Manoj Kumar on June 9, 2020.
