CTC bans open waste burning; prohibits roadside storage of construction materials

Dimapur, March 30 (NEx): The Chumoukedima Town Council (CTC) on Match 26, 2021 issued an order banning open waste burning and prohibiting roadside storage of construction material along highways/colony/ward roads within it’s jurisdiction.

EAC & Administrator, Chumukedima Town Council, Seyiekhrietuo Solo, in an order stated that in pursuance to the solid waste management rules, 2016 SCC 4 (2) regarding restrictions on open burning of municipal waste, biomass, plastic, horticulture waste, etc, this is to inform general public that burning of solid waste (any municipal waste, biomass, plastic, horticulture waste, etc) on one’s own premises, outside one’s own premises, streets, open spaces or in the drains/water bodies within CTC jurisdiction is prohibited.

Defaulters are liable to be penalized as per the provision of law and the order shall come into force with immediate effect, it said.

CTC Prohibits roadside storage of construction material:

In another order, the EAC Solo stated that individuals are obstructing public highways/colony/ward roads by storing construction materials along the roads which are detrimental to the safety of the residents, pedestrians and commuters along the road.

The CTC issued an order prohibiting all such activities in the NH 29 and all colony/ward roads within CTC area for both commercial and personal purposes.

The order said that such activities are prohibited under section 21 & 54 of the Nagaland highway act, 1967, section 3(1) of prevention of damage to public property Act, 1984 and whoever act in contravention to the above cited sections is liable to be persecuted under various sections of the law.

It advised that all such activities shall be carried out beyond the drainage along the highway and in exceptional cases for colonies/ward roads where there is no provision to store otherwise, on prior written permission from the ward authority, such construction materials maybe stored and cleared within 48 hours.
