Coronavirus: Government of India confirms poultry is safe

Dimapur, February 12 (NE): After receiving an official notification from Government of India, as on February Ten, it is evident that earlier news coming from South India which went viral that a chicken has been found to be infected by 2019-Novel Corona Virus (2019-nCoV) is hoax.

As per the official notification of OIE, it is said that current 2019-nCoV is from human to human. In this regard, the Government said, though 2019-nCoV may have had an animal source, it has to be separately investigated further. It observed, that poultry has not been found to be involved in transmission of 2019-nCoV to human so far in any report globally. Therefore, the Government said that it may be considered safe to consume poultry and it’s products. However, an appeal to the citizens to continue following the general principles of hygiene as per WHO/OIE, it maintained.

It is important to note that people from Nagaland were very worried as the news spread about chicken being found with the Corona Virus. Now, it will be a relief for Nagaland as it is considered to be a high consumer of chicken after pork.
