CM Rio announces Rs.10 lacs additional insurance for health workers fighting Covid-19

Kohima, April 02 (NE): Government of Nagaland today, announced additional Rupees Ten lakhs insurance for health workers fighting Covid-19 pandemic in Government hospitals and health care centers.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter and notified that in addition to Rupees Fifty lakhs insurance scheme under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKJ) for health workers fighting Covid-19 in Government hospitals and health care centers, the Nagaland government will add Rupees 10 Lacs in the event of some accident while treating Covid-19 patients,’ Rio tweets.

In Nagaland State the total insurance scheme for the health care workers fighting Covid-19 stands at Rupees Sixty lacs, this includes Fifty lacs from the PMGKJ Insurance scheme and Ten lacs from the state government. The insurance cover provided to the health workers will be for three months with effect from March 25, 2020.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced PMGKJ Insurance scheme of Rupees Fifty lacs for health workers fighting COVID-19 in Government Hospitals and Health Care Centres on March 26, 2020.

Details of the PMGKJ Insurance scheme:

– Safai karamcharis, ward-boys, nurses, ASHA workers, paramedics, technicians, doctors and specialists and other health workers would be covered by a Special insurance Scheme.

– Any health professional, who while treating Covid-19 patients, meet with some accident, then he/she would be compensated with an amount of Rs 50 lacs under the scheme.

– The insurance cover provided to the health workers will be for three months (90 days) with effect from March 25, 2020.

– All government health centres, wellness centres and hospitals of Centre as well as States would be covered under this scheme approximately 22 lakh health workers would be provided insurance cover to fight this pandemic.
