Dimapur, April 25, (NEx): The Captain N Kenguruse MVC (P) Basketball Tournament, organised by Jalukie Battalion, Assam Rifles & St Xavier’s College concluded on April 24th. The tournament lasted 3 days, with Nine boy’s teams and Five girl’s teams who participated.

It was organised in the memory of Captain N Kenguruse MVC(P), a courageous officer of the Indian Army and an alumnus of St Xavier’s School, Jalukie, who attained martyrdom while single handedly destroying an enemy position during Operation Vijay in 1999. Officers from Jalukie Battalion, Father Francis, Principal St Xavier’s College and members of the local administration were present during the prize distribution ceremony held at St Xavier’s College.

Speaking at the occasion, Father Francis, Principal St Xavier congratulated the participants and the winners for their energetic display of sportsmanship. Mr John, Student Organiser, St Xavier’s thanked Jalukie Battalion, Assam Rifles for extending all support in ensuring successful conduct of the tournament.

Participating teams also appreciated the efforts of the organisers and requested that sports competitions should be organised more frequently. Mr Taka, Captain ‘Élite Team’, mentioned that sports tournaments were a source of motivation for them to excel and win in all spheres of life, while also being a medium of interaction with security forces.

At the conclusion of the tournament, ‘Elite team’ from Dimapur emerged as the champion beating ‘Black Knights’ with 65 – 40 points on the scoreboard while in the girls category, ‘Black Knights’ from Peren defeated ‘Jalukie Ballers’ with 16 – 6 points. A lively prize distribution marked the culmination of the basketball tournament.

All players were felicitated with certificates of appreciation, while the winner and runners up team were awarded medals and cash prizes. The chief guest congratulated the various teams and individual players before doing the honour of giving away the crash prizes and certificates to the winners.
