Kohima, June 27 (NE): Health and Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom, today inaugurated the BSL-2 Laboratory in Christian Institute Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) Dimapur in the presence of Minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Kesonyu Yhome.

Speaking at the inauguration, Pangnyu said with the BSL-2 lab operational from today, the test capacity for COVID-19 in the state will increase. He said since testing is vital in the fight against this disease, the state government has not only set up BSL labs but also acquired TrueNat machines and distributed them to all the districts.

The state has seen a steady rise in COVID-19 positive cases, but one must not panic as all the cases were detected at the Institutional quarantine centre and all the patients had come from outside the state. So far in the state, there is no community transmission, said Pangnyu.

Health Minister further urged the people not to panic or spread rumours but to follow the standard operating procedures and guidelines issued by the government.

This is the second BSL lab in the State, the first BSL-3 lab was inaugurated in Naga Hospital Authority Kohima on May 21, 2020. As on today, 6981 samples have been tested in NHAK lab.

While updating the status on third BSL lab in the State, Pangnyu said that the works are going on war footing to complete BSL-2 lab at District Hospital, Tuensang which is likely to be completed by the end of next month.

Health Minister was accompanied by Jacob Zhimomi, Hon’ble Minister for PHED, Tovihoto Ayemi, Hon’ble Advisor for Power, Zhaleo Rio, Hon’ble Advisor for Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Toshi Wungtung, Hon’ble Advisor for IPR, SCERT & VG and Azheto Zhimomi, Hon’ble MLA.

Senior officials from the State Government, APC & in-charge of Dimapur District to co-ordinate COVID-19 related activities, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur were also present at the inaugural programme.
