Kohima, June 06 (NE): Going a step ahead in its pursuit to ensure a healthy environment and to spread the importance of forest cover in maintaining ecological balance, IGAR (North) organised a mass ‘Plantation Drive’ on the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’ on June five 2020.
Residents actively participated in the event alongwith troops and families. As part of the novel initiative, over 10,000 saplings of various variety were planted across Nagaland.
Kohima Battalion :
Kohima Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) observed ‘World Environment Day’ planting 1750 saplings within Kohima military garrison and around it.
On this occasion, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) also planted a sapling and emphasized on the concept of Reuse, Reduce, Renew and Recycle for environment conservation and encouraged everyone to plant more trees for a healthier future.
Kiphire Battalion :
Kiphire Battalion observed the ‘World Environment Day’ with fervor on 05 June 05, 2020. Tree plantation drive was meticulously organised on a massive scale encouraging participation.
A total of 1600 saplings were planted in Kiphire town/village, Phelungre, Pungro town/village, Mimi, Thongsonyu, Longmatre and Akhegwo village.
Tuensang Battalion :
In sync with the year 2020 theme ‘Time for Nature’, Tuensang Battalion of Assam Rifles carried out mass plantation drive at Battalion Headquarters, Tuensang and COBs. To highlight the significance of the day, each personnel planted a sapling.
