Kohima, September 30 (NEx): Additional Chief Electoral officer & PIO N. Moa Aier in a press conference on September 29, 2020, said that the Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for by-election to fill the casual vacancy in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 14-Southern-Angami -1 and 60-Pungro Kiphire Assembly Constituency.

N Moa Aier stated that the date of issue of gazette notification will be on October 9, 2020, the last date of nomination is October 16, 2020 and date of scrutiny of nominations will be held on october 17, 2020 and also the last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be on october 19, 2020. The date of polling will be on November 3, 2020 while the date of counting will be on November 10, 2020.

The PIO also informed that the date before which election shall be completed will be on November 12, 2020. He also informed that the Model Code of Conduct comes into force with immediate effect in the districts of Kohima and Kiphire in which the whole or any part of the assembly constituencies going for bye-election is included, subject to partial modification.

He also said as per the guidelines of election commission of India every person shall wear face mask during every election related activity and stated that Social Distancing shall be maintained as per the COVID-19 guidelines of the state government and ministry of home affairs. Adequate number of vehicles shall be mobilized for movement of polling personal, security personal to ensure compliance of COVID-19 guidelines. He added that Nodal Health Officer shall be designated for the state, the district and the Assembly constituency to oversee COVID-19 related arrangements and preventive measures during entire electoral process.

PIO highlighted the basic electoral roll of the 14th Southern Angami-1 A/C and said that total voters of 13,541 will exercise their voting rights meanwhile, 60-Pungro Kiphire A/C will be witnessing 29,346 votes.

Meanwhile, With the announcement of the Bye- Election, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Gregory Thejawelie NCS informed that the Model Code of Conduct comes into force with immediate effect throughout Kohima district except for the areas under the Kohima Municipal Council other than Ward No. 5 Kitsubozou (Chotobosti) which falls under 14 Southern Angami I Assembly Constituency.

The DC informed all political parties, intending candidates, government departments/establishments and general public to take note of the same and adhere strictly to the model code of conduct and extend cooperation to the district election machinery to ensure peaceful conduct of the said bye-election.
