60 Pungro-Kiphire seat: five candidates filed nomination, No candidate from NPF

Kohima, October 16 (NEx): With Friday being the last date for filing nominations for the forthcoming by-election of two Assembly constituencies in Nagaland, which is scheduled for poll on November 03, 2020, a total of five (5) candidates filed nomination for 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly constituency today.

According to a DIPR report, altogether five candidates filed their nominations for the Bye-Election to 60 Pungro-Kiphire at ADC & RO office Kiphire on Friday, October 16, 2020.

Khaseo Anar from Congress party, Lirimong Sangtam from BJP and three independent candidates – K.Shellumthong, T.Yangseo Sangtam, and Kiusumew Yimchunger have filed the nomination today.

The main opposition party, Naga People’s Front (NPF) has not filed any candidate for 60 Pungro-Kiphire constituency.

Speaking to NagalandExpress, NPF General Secretary (Central HQ), S Akho Leyri informed that, the party could not field any candidate for the 60 Pungro-Kiphire constituency as there was no candidate willing to step up for the coming by-election. On being asked of party alliance with any of the five candidates above, Leyri said that the party is yet to decide on their support.

The 60 Pungro-Kiphire and 14 Southern Angami – 1 assembly constituencies will go for poll on November 03, 2020 and the counting will take place on November 10, 2020.
