Kohima, July 11 (NEx): The 2nd Quarterly National Lok Adalat was held in the State on July 10th, 2021, under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) and settled 24 matters out of 38 listed disputes/matters/cases, the NSLSA informed in a press release.
In the National Lok Adalat (peoples Court) held by Legal Services Institutions all across the State in concert with the rest of the country, 08 Lok Adalat Sitting benches were constituted by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) in the respective District Headquarters.
In total, cases listed includes cases
in pending stage as well as in pre-litigation stage mostly in the category of bank Recovery, Criminal Compoundable cases & Motor Accident Claims Tribunal(MACT). Other settlement amount also included the fine money, Bank recovery amount and compensation amount among others.
With pervasive pursuance by the conciliators through arbitration, conciliation and amicable efforts, the benches were able to resolve and settle 24 such disputes and cases.
The total settlement amount was Rs. 36,35,776, which is the amount mutually agreed for payment between the litigants (or) parties who are involved in a dispute where the parties on arriving at a consensus, the amount to settle the disputes for the damaged caused or a negotiated amount for payment on a claim by a party.
The NLA was presided by Chairperson DLSAs cum Chief Judicial Magistrate/District & Sessions Judge or Secretary or CJM/Junior Magistrate (First Class) as Presiding officers and Panel lawyers as conciliators. The sitting was organized in Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Kiphire, Mokokchung,Mon and Wokha.
