250 girl child receives free Notebooks in Longleng district

Kohima, January 28 (NE): Along with the rest of the country Longleng District celebrated a weeklong National Girl Child Day from 20th Jan 2020 which culminated on 26th Jan 2020. The main objective of the celebration was to spread maximum awareness and sensitize the message of BBBP to the general populace of the district. One remarkable event of the celebration was free distribution of notebooks to girl child. The program was organized to encourage the education of girl child to excel in their career.

DC, Longleng, M. Shayung Phom in his short speech encouraged the girl child to utilize the note books and added meritorious girl child in any field will also be acknowledged and sponsored with scholarships.

5 (five) note books each with BBBP logo was distributed to at least 250 girl child which was given away by the Deputy Commission in the district Headquarter, and the EACs in their respective block. The note book distribution was also meant to spread awareness about the importance of girl child in the family and community and sensitize the parents about BBBP program.

The highlights of the weeklong celebration included opening ceremony, signature campaign, oath taking ceremony, mini marathon race for men with a theme “Run for Daughter” wall painting, postal campaign, putting up of billboards and hoardings, community meeting, sensitization program with church and students’ leaders, games and sports, literacy day, celebration of birth of girl child besides other activities.

The weeklong programs were attended by the brand ambassador, local champion, church leaders & elders and Phomla Hoichem (the apex women organization of Phom) and students’ leaders. The program was also observed in the blocks and subdivision of Longleng.
