Zeme Olympics Underway at Jalukie

Dimapur, December 10 (NE): The first ever Zeme Olympics got underway at Jalukie, Peren District on December 10, 2019 under the theme “Arise and Win”. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Former CM of Nagaland & Leader of Opposition, T.R Zeliang (Advisor to Zeme Olympic Association) as the Special Guest and DC Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, NCS as the Guest of Honour.

It was organized by Zeme Olympic Association (ZOA) from three States- Nagaland, Manipur & Assam.

A total of 106 contingents from the three states are participating in various discliplines; Men’s Football-70 teams, Men’s Volleyball-43 teams, Women Volleyball-25 teams and Athletics. The event will be held in 4 different places- Govt. Hr. Sec. School Ground Jalukie town, Samziuram ground, Jalukie B ground and Mhainamtsi ground.

Former CM of Nagaland & Leader of Opposition, TR Zeliang in his address extended his gratitude to the organizers, Zeme Olympic Association (ZOA) who have rendered their service as well as contributed selflessly in organizing the first ever Zeme Olympics. In his speech, he said sports plays an important role in the overall development of human’s life and a good education system is not only based on the development of the mind but should equally focus on the development of the physical body too, therefore he urged the youngsters to make sports an integral part of their life.

Zeliang also extended best wishes to all the participating teams in every disciplines with a hope that they will display the highest standard of discipline and sportsmanship. With the commencement of this Olympic, he hoped that it could be a starting point to strengthen unity among the people and therefore encouraged the Zeme people from Nagaland, Manipur and Assam to stand in unison with one voice so that it will reunite the fragmented organizations of the Zeliang people in the three states.

Later, the Olympic was officially declared open by the Special Guest followed by football opening match between Nzauna vs Beisampuilwa.

Earlier, the Special Guest upon his arrival unveiled the Monolith at Multi Purpose Ground, Jalukie Town and was dedicated by ZBCC Nagaland Executive Secretary, Izieteilung Terieng. The opening ceremony was presided by Holy Newme and Keyi Putlang, while Presidential speech was delivered by Jeremiah Pame and Greetings by Dr. Alison Kahn from Oxford University Film Institute, UK.
