Kohima, June 11 (NE): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in coordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati has issued weather updates for the coming days.
NSDMA in a press release said that State capital Kohima and most other parts of Nagaland are covered with the monsoon current as the Southwest monsoon which has made timeline onset over Kerala and coastal Karnataka has reached Northeast India which has further advanced into Nagaland through the eastern arm of the Bay of Bengal.
During this period, thunderstorms and lightning with heavy rains is expected in the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Peren, Phek, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon and Longleng. However, moderate showers will continue in the remaining parts of the State which is likely to become intense.
There will be a strong monsoon activity between June 12-17, 2020, and we can expect heavy monsoon rains almost daily, mostly in the night and early morning during this time, NSDMA stated.
The second spell of the monsoon rain is also expected between June 21-30, 2020, which will last for 3 to 4 days, it said.
In view of the heavy rainfall expected during this monsoon period, NSDMA, Home Department urged the public to be vigilant and not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks and to take necessary precautionary measures to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash flood.
Through the press release, NSDMA also requested all the DDMAs and other line departments who are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities to be on alert to save lives and properties during this period.
