Nagaland exempted from NE shutdown on 10th December, NSF to protest at Raj Bhavan

Dimapur, December 7 (NE): As the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, December 4, passed CAB making the way for its introduction in the Lok Sabha again, North East Students’ Organisations (NESO) called for a total shut down in the Northeast States of India to express strong resentment, informed in a notification.

The North East Students’ Organisations (NESO) Executive and component units meeting which was held at Hotel Prag Continental, Guwahati, yesterday on December six, resolved to impose a Total Shut Down all over the North Eastern States of India on December ten from 5 am to 4 pm to express strong resentment of the people against the approval of the union cabinet to the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

The NSF team led by its Vice President Dievi Yano attended the meeting yesterday, Nagaland state has been exempted from the purview of the shutdown due to the ongoing exams and hornbill festival. The NSF, however, will be organising a Sit-in protest in front of the Raj Bhavan on the said day, informed in a notification.

The Centre is all set to bring the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Sources said the business advisory committee of Lok Sabha in its meeting held on Thursday morning decided to introduce the Bill on December 9.

“The Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha and after it get the passage there, the Bill will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha,” said sources. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday passed CAB making the way for its introduction in the Lok Sabha.
