Kohima, May 21 (NE): Much awaited first Bio-safety laboratory (BSL-3) of Nagaland at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) operational today, May 21, 2020.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, inaugurated the State Referral BSL-3 laboratory at NHAK in the presence of Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom, Deputy CM Y Patton and other State dignitaries.
Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said its a is a red-letter day for Nagas, the desire of our people to have our own Lab to combat the Pandemic COVID-19 is fulfilled today. The Lab is dedicated to the people of our State, added Pangnyu.

BSL-3 Lab at NHAK will not only be able to test for COVID-19 but has huge prospects in future which includes rapid response to un-identified new infections, characterization of disease profiling and in cancer and genetic research. Through the BSL-3 Lab, the State can now test upto 90 COVID-19 samples per day.
CM Rio expressed gratitude to the neighbouring states Assam and Manipur for helping Nagaland in time of need.
Principal Director, H&FW, Dr Vizolie Z Suokhrie gave the Welcome speech, dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev. T.W Yamyap Konyak, State Chaplain. An introductory note was given by Kesonyu Yhome, IAS, Secretary, GoN, H&FW, followed by a short speech by Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom and Inaugural ceremony by CM Rio. Deputy CM Y Patton along with other dignitaries were present at the dedication.
With the BSL-3 in NHAK functional, all the seven Northeastern states now have their own or Central government-run labs for testing Coronavirus.
