Kohima, May 12 (NE): Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today, May 12, 2020 addressed the nation for the Fifth time on Coronavirus situation in the country.
In India, COVID-19 has claimed 2,293 lives and infected over 70,000 people including 22,454 who have been treated and discharged.
Key highlights of PM Modi’s speech:
The PM declared that we are in a state of war against coronavirus. We have to save ourselves from this virus and also move ahead at the same time.
Modi said that, Lockdown 4 is to be declared soon which will be different from the previous ones and its announcement will be made before May 18.
PM Modi also announced 20 lakh crore economic package for a self reliant India.
The new financial package will give a new momentum for India, adding that it is 10% of India’s GDP. This package focuses on land, labour, liquidity and law. It will help small industries and MSMEs.
The financial package will be announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the coming days, he added
The Pandemic has taught us the true value of self-reliance. India has converted Coronavirus challenges to an opportunity. India has always been a leader and our efforts at International forums are a testimony. India can become self-reliant on these five pillars – economy, infrastructure, our system, demography and demand, he said.
Before the outbreak, not a single PPE or N95 masks were made in India, but now we are making at least 2 lakh of PPE and 2 lakh N95 masks daily.
India needs to fulfil its role as one of the leaders in the 21st century. It’s been four months now since the world started fighting against COVID-19 pandemic.
Globally, more than 42 lakh people have been infected by coronavirus, more than 2.75 lakh people have lost their lives due to the virus.
