Kohima, August 11 (NEx): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Tuesday notified all its federating units and sub-ordinate bodies of NSF for 74th Naga Independence day celebration on August 14, 2020.
Through a notification issued on Tuesday, by NSF Vice President, Dievi Yano and General Secretary, Liremor R Kikon, NSF regrets it’s inability to commemorate the Naga Independence Day programme due to global COVID-19 outbreak and the SOP set in place by the concerned authorities.
However, the Federation will be hoisting the Naga National Flag at its headquarters in Kohima to mark the occasion. NSF notified all its federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to hoist the Naga National Flag at their respective headquarters to mark the 74th Naga Independence day celebration on August 14, 2020.
NSF, further directed its federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to forward the compliance report along with pictures of the Naga National Flag hosting programme for documentation.
In 1947, President of the Naga National Council (NNC), Angami Zapu Phizo, had declared independence for the Nagas a day before British rule over India ended. Since then, Nagas have been observing independence day on August 14.
This year it is very significant as Naga peace talk is also in a very crucial stage. Sources informed that the final talk is underway at Delhi between Naga Political groups and Government of India. The separate Naga National flag has been a contention in reaching a final agreement to solve the decades-old Naga peace talk, between NSCN (IM) and the Government of India.
