No child marriages on 2013-2017 in Nagaland: Smti Smriti Irani

Dimapur, November 29, (NE): No cases of child marriages have been reported in 11 States and Union Territories of the country during 2013-2017. It includes Nagaland, Arunchal Pradesh, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep.

This was informed by Women and Child Welfare Minister Smriti Irani while quoting data of National Crime Record Bureau in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today. She said, incidents of the child marriages have continuously increased in the country during 2013-2017.

Over 1,500 cases of child marriage have been reported in the country between 2013-2017, the highest number of cases was recorded in 2017 at 395 while in 2016 the number of cases received were 326.

In 2015, 293 cases were received while in 2014 as many as 280 cases were reported. In 2013, the number of cases received was 222, the data showed.
