Kohima, May 28 (NE): As the fight against COVID-19 pandemic intensifies, Nagaland Government has decided to establish a Bio-Safety Level 2 (BSL-2) Laboratory at Tuensang district headquarter and provide TrueNat testing facilities in all the districts.
This was decided in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, today, May 27, 2020.
Minister for Planning & coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu while briefing on COVID-19 status in the state informed that the State Government has taken the decision to establish a BSL-2 testing laboratory in Tuensang district headquarter.
The State Government through the Medical Department will undertake necessary procedures for technical clearance for establishment of the laboratory from the Government of India and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), he stated.
The State Government has also taken the decision to set up TrueNat testing facility in all the districts of the State, Neiba said.
Nagaland has a BSL-3 Lab at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima and the second, a BSL-2 at CIHSR Dimapur, which is in the process of setting up.
Meanwhile Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland Shri R.N. Ravi today, May 27, 2020 reviewed the preparedness of the State Government in the backdrop of recent COVID-19 positive cases reported in the State and stressed on the need for more BSL Labs in the State.
Nagaland has reported nine (9) COVID-19 positive cases as of today, May 27, 2020. Among this, six cases reported from Dimapur, two from Kohima and one from Tuensang. All positive cases reported are among the returnees from Chennai.
