Kohima, July 13 (NEx): Almost 15 months after filing disqualification petition, the fate of the seven (7), suspended Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLAs to be decided tomorrow as Nagaland Speaker is set to pronounce judgements on the disqualification petition on July 14, 2020 at 01:00 pm.
Through an official notice, Commissioner & Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Dr. P. J Antony has informed both the parties that the Hon’ble Speaker has fixed the pronouncement of judgement on the disqualification petition at the conference hall, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) at 01:00 pm on July 14, 2020.
The NPF filed disqualification petitions against its seven suspended MLAs on April 24, 2019 for “wilfully” defying its collective decision to support the Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The seven NPF MLAs E.E. Pangteang, Eshak Konyak, Kejong Chang, B.S. Nganglang Phom, Toyang Chang, N. Thongwang Konyak and C.L. John was suspended from the party for openly declaring support to NDPP leader Tokheho Yepthomi, a consensus candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA), on the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state. NPF did not field its candidate but collectively decided to support the Congress candidate K. L. Chishi.
The MLAs Imkong L Imchen and Chotisuh Sazo are the petitioners in the disqualification petition.
It is also important to note that, the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed Nagaland Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer to conclude the disqualification proceedings against seven lawmakers of the Opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) and pass appropriate orders within six weeks from June 2, 2020.
