Nagaland reports 3 COVID-19 positive cases; Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio appeals not to panic

Kohima, May 25 (NE): Nagaland reported three positive cases for COVID-19 today, May 25, 2020. Two patients are in Dimapur and one in Kohima. Menukhol John, Principal Secretary, H&FW confirmed the report in a press conference held at secretariat, Kohima.

All three are returnees from Chennai in a Shramik special train on May 22, 2020. Among the three who tested positive for COVID-19, two of them are male and one is a female.

Two cases are reported from Dimapur and one from Kohima, they are undergoing treatment at District Hospital Dimapur and Chedema, Kohima respectively.

While appealing to the public not to panic, the Chief Minister, Shri Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter and said, unfortunately, 2 persons in Dimapur and 1 in Kohima have been tested positive for COVID_19. Please do not panic. We need to handle it with utmost care and responsibility.

Necessary action of contact tracing and containment measures are being taken and situation closely monitored – tweets Rio.

Health Minister, S Pangnyu Phom tweeted, ‘First positive case reported in Nagaland. Three returnees from Chennai (Sharamik Express) tested Positive for COVID-19.

They are undergoing treatment at District Hospital Dimapur and Chedema, Kohima respectively. Their condition is stable and all contact tracing are in progress, added Pangnyu.

Nagaland was the only State in India with zero positive case of COVID-19 till now. As of May 24, 2020, Nagaland collected a total of 1066 suspected samples out of which, 1001 samples have been tested negative and 65 sample results are awaited, informed Nagaland Principal Secretary, Home.
