Nagaland: Free COVID vaccination for 18-44 years to begin from May 17th

Kohima, May 13 (NEx): Putting an end to the long await, the Government of Nagaland on Thursday announced that the free COVID vaccination for the age group of 18-44 years will begin from May 17th, 2021.

The Health and Family Welfare Department informed that the registration and booking of slot for the vaccine will start from 09:00 am on May 14, 2021 onwards.

It also informed that, the online registration is mandatory for the vaccination and people can register through CoWIN & Aarogya Setu app. There will not be any onsite registration, the department said.

People who registered before, still need to book for the vaccination through the above mentioned mobile apps the Health department said. The Identity Card used during the registration should be produced at the vaccine site, it added.

Earlier, Nagaland Government decided to vaccinate all citizens above 18-years free of cost from May 01, 2021. The decision was taken during the State Cabinet meeting held at Kohima on April 27th, 2021.

Nagaland has an estimated population of 8 lakh citizens in the age group of 18-44. The State government needs 16 lakh doses of vaccine to complete two dose COVID vaccination drive for the said age group.

The total cost for the vaccine alone at the announced price for COVISHIELD is estimated to be Rs. 64 crore, this was stated in a letter from Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to President, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
