Kohima, March 23 (NEx): The Leader of Opposition and Former Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang condemned the inhuman massacre of three innocent lives at Lamhainamdi village in Peren of Nagaland and urged the State Government to grasp the severity of the case and leave no stone unturned to book the culprits in order to come out of the era of lawlessness in our society.
Statement issued by the Leader of Opposition, TR Zeliang reads out:
“I am deeply grieved and anguished at the merciless and inhuman massacre of three innocent lives at Lamhainamdi last evening by gun wielding scoundrels. The gun culture still practiced by a few unscrupulous people has no place in this modern society and should be condemned by all right thinking citizens.”
“When we are all longing for permanent peace in our land, some people of our society has taken undue advantage of it and continues to rampantly spread fear psychosis by resorting to all means of unethical and immoral practices denounced by any sensible society. Yesterday’s massacre of innocent lives and unhindered firing upon unarmed and unsuspecting farmers, by a group of fully armed men, with sophisticated weapons, is a blot in the history of Nagas. This act is not of the brave but of cowards, who under the veil of guns attempts to push their personal twisted agendas and suppress the rights of innocents.”
“The State government should grasp the severity of the case and leave no stone unturned to book the culprits in order to come out of the era of lawlessness in our society. If we are threatened to live in our own land, what is to become of our society? Would those having more number of machine guns be right no matter the logic and reasoning?”
“This incident should be a wake up call to all the sensible and right thinking citizens regardless of tribes, religion and political affiliation to re-evaluate and introspect into the way of functioning of these parasitic elements in our Society. It is time to collectively stand against the culture of intimidation and flexing of might, through the barrel of the gun.”
“In the strongest term, I condemn this heartless and savage act. I also once again extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the three souls, Shri. Itinguangbe, Shri. Hangyi and Shri. Asiambo. I pray that the Almighty grant the families strength and solace at this time of immense grief. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace,” – unquote.
