Kohima Traffic Sentinel Scheme: Citizens can report traffic offence & get Rs 1000 cash reward

Kohima, December 01 (NEx): The Director General of Police, Nagaland, T. John Longkumer, IPS during the inauguration program of the Kohima Police Traffic Control Room, Opposite SKV petrol pump, officially launched Kohima Police Traffic Sentinel Scheme as part of community policing. Citizens can now enroll as ‘Traffic Sentinel’ and report traffic violations/offences through WhatsApp and get cash rewards (Rs. 1000/-).

Kohima Police Traffic Sentinel Scheme is part of community policing, empowering public to participate in traffic management. Kohima Police has made it so easy for the citizens that a traffic violation can now be reported to the police via WhatsApp with clear picture or video and earn rewards while helping Kohima police to enforce traffic rules.

In order to report any traffic offense, Citizen first need to register as ‘Traffic Sentinel’ via WhatsApp by sending one’s details like name, mobile number and email address. (WhatsApp number to register as Traffic Sentinel: +91 – 9863275596).

After registering as Traffic Sentinel by sending the details to above mentioned WhatsApp number, citizens can report and help Kohima police to enforce traffic rules by reporting traffic violations/offences. One can report an offence by sending WhatsApp message with a ‘photo or video with clean view of defaulting vehicle registration number, time, date, place and type of violation.’

Every traffic violation reporting is entitled to earn reward points as per the chart made available by the Kohima police. Once the reward point reaches 100, the user get a cash reward of Rs. 1000, it said.

Traffic violation reporting on driving against one-way rule gets 7 reward points, parking violations – 3 points, triple riding – 10 points, riding without helmet – 7 points, driving using mobile phone – 10 points, dangerous driving – 10 points and using vehicles with black films – 3 points.

A traffic Sentinel Control Unit has been set up to receive traffic violations report from citizens. On receipt of any report of traffic violations through WhatsApp video/photo, traffic Sentinel control room will verify the report and inform the concerned OC North/South control to despatch enforcement team to reported spots.

Modern day technology empowered Kohima Traffic Control Room, Opposite SKV petrol pump which was inaugurated today by the DGP Nagaland will now make the task easy to monitor and manage vehicular traffic in Kohima.

Identify traffic congested areas in real time through Google map, Live feed from CCTV cameras centralised at traffic control room to monitor traffic flow and identify traffic violations, Use of drone to monitor traffic flow are some of the highlights of the new traffic control room at Kohima.

The technical support unit will also provide live traffic updates through 103 MHz FM Tragopan AIR and also through official Facebook and Twitter account of Kohima Police.
