India COVID-19 cases tally crossed 5-million (50-lakh) mark on September 16, 2020

Dimapur, September 16 (NEx): India COVID-19 cases tally crossed 5-million (50-lakh) mark, with 90,123 more positive cases on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data.

The total case tally stands at 50,20,353 including 9,95,933 active cases, while 39,42,360 are cured/discharged/migrated. The country also recorded 1,290 more deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 death toll to 82,066, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare updated.

Meanwhile, India tested 11.16 lakh COVID-19 samples on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. So far, a total of 5,94,29,115 samples has been tested across the country, updated Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan in a tweet.

India also recorded highest single-day recovery of COVID-19 patients in the last 24 hours, as 82,961 patients have recuperated. The recovery rate in the country is at a whopping high of 78.5 per cent, the fatality rate has come down to 1.6 per cent, it said.

Globally, in terms of number of COVID-19 positive cases, India stands at number two, while US is at the top of the table with more than 6.69 million total cases and close to 2 lakh deaths from COVID-19. Brazil is at the third spot with 4.38 million total cases and over 1.33 lakh deaths.
