Hunting banned in Mokokchung & Mon with immediate effect

Kohima, February 20 (NE): In view of the spread of novel Corona Virus (COVID – 19) in China and other parts of the world, Government of Nagaland, through the office of Deputy Commissioner issued an order to ban the hunting of wild animals in Mokokchung and Mon District with immediate effect.

A press release issued by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir and DC Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS, stated that hunting activities increases the chances of contact of wild animals and wild animal products with humans. Therefore, any individual/group/organization found indulging in hunting activities will be punished as per the Wild Life Production Act, 1972, it added.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared novel Corona Virus (COVID – 19) a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), added the press release.
