Foreign cigarettes worth Rs. 1.76 lac recovered from a train running between Dimapur & Lumding

Dimapur, February 13 (NEx): The Northeast Frontier Railways informed that 4,400 packets of foreign made cigarettes having the mark of “ESSE LIGHTS” containing 20 cigarettes in each packet worth Rs. 1, 76,000/- (approx), were found unclaimed in a train running between Dimapur and Lumding.

NFR said that Constable Prasanta Bora of RPF/Post/Lumding with 04 personnel of the 14th BN of RPSF while performing train escort duty of train no. 02423 DN (Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express) on February 12, 2021, detected 02 steel boxes kept at the corridor of coach no. B-5 as unclaimed, while the train was running in between Dimapur and Lumding stations under Lumding division.

NFR updated that the unclaimed boxes were de-trained at Lumding station and brought to RPF/Post/Lumding. On checking the boxes, 4,400 packets of foreign made cigarettes having mark of “ESSE LIGHTS” containing 20 cigarettes in each packet were found, which is valued at Rs. 1,76,000/- approximately.

The matter was informed to the Superintendent of Customs, Dimapur over telephone for taking further necessary action, it updated.
