Finance Ministry releases Rs. 31.25 crores to Nagaland as rural local bodies tied grant as recommended by the 15th Finance Commission

Kohima, July 15 (NEx): The Ministry of Finance, Government of India on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 released Rural Local bodies tied Grants of Rs 15,187 crore to all the States. Nagaland received Rs. 31.25 crore as recommended by the 15th Finance Commission.

Taking to twitter Union Finance Minister, Smti Nirmala Sitharaman said, Finance Ministry, Government of India today released the 1st installment of tied grants for Rural Local Bodies amounting to Rs 15,187.5 crore to all the States, based on the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission and the subsequent recommendation of the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

This would enable the Rural Local Bodies to finance basic services like sanitation, maintenance of open-defecation free (ODF) status, supply of drinking water, rain water harvesting, and water recycling, tweets Union Finance Minister.

Along with other States, Nagaland received Rs. 31.25 crore, as first instalment of Rural Local Bodies Tied Grants for 2020-21, as recommended by the 15th Finance Commission.

The basic grants can be used by the local bodies for the basic services of sanitations & maintenance of open defecation free status and supply of drinking water, rain water harvesting & water recycling.

The local bodies shall, as far as possible earmark one half of these tied grants to each of this two critical services. However, if any local body has fully saturated the needs of one category, it can utilise the funds for the other category, Stated the Finance Ministry order.
